By the invitation to Dislocación I dare to cross the boundaries of the architecture through the cotemporary art. The problem of social housing in Chile towards a more universal reality, shows a context to watch and think which is different than the original. Carrying out a transfer as aesthetical as political, through a “social modeling”1, in which a peripheral look is inserted, this dismantled  space, of social problem, is moved towards a space visited my minority.

The Work

This work is the representing of the living – dining room of  a basic social housing  (12 mt 2) in which the average Chilean family of 5 persons lives every day. The overcrowding and the accumulation is  complete, directly affecting on psycho-somatic, sociological  illness, and strongly increasing the desire of being out of home and look for the street.

On the other hand there is a trend to try to solve these problems, but from a look that does not understand the real necessities of these communities. The sustainability in Chile goes through paying the utility bills, where does the citizen participation arrive. The desire of people is space, place and belonging. But, how is this materialized?, Where do they find  this?

The social housing has been transformed, or certainly it comes to be a political, economical and cultural setting where the favored ones are those who do not live in this place and there are some lucky ones that do live in this context of social fragility who really find in this space a sense of belonging. How, do people in this fragility situation find and use the public space?

The setting proposes a space to reflect about how do we see, get close and think about people that lack opportunities, live on a stigmatized and poor environment. How do we see ourselves reflected and projected in this context? And on the other hand it shows us reality. Producing a dislocated space. A place created by every spectator looking around the installatio.
